Onam Festival 2010

Onam is one of the largest event or festival of the south Indian State known as Kerala. This festival is celebrated every year in the first month of Malayalee Calendar. This first month is named as Chingam and in English calendar it comes in August or September. The celebration of this festival last for ten days and in the remaining last three days of this festival, it takes it peak.

This year the celebration of this festival will start on 14th August and last up to 23rd August. The people of Malayalam are ready to celebrate this festival and their preparations are almost complete. In this festival there are a lot of things which represent the culture and traditions of Kerala.

People make beautiful but complex flower carpets, make lunches and snake boat race are some important events of this festival. A traditional dance known as Kaikottikali dance also performed in this festival. Women and men wear special traditional dress on this event. Onam is also known as the harvest festival of Kerala.

This festival also brings a lot of opportunities for the consumers like LG, Philips, Samsung and Panasonic. According to an analysis the 50 to 60 % of their annual sales only happens during the month of Onam. Beside these there are also a lot of stalls related to the textile, jewelry, mobile and automobiles. Onam is a festival when a lot of purchasing happens and every body is happy on this festival. Nowadays Onam is marked as an important festival of India because it plays an important role in the life of marketers.
